John Rudd came from a large working family in which driving, repairing, and operating heavy vehicles became a way of life. His early years introduced him to the realities of road haulage long before modern safety standards, reliable machinery, and regulated working hours changed the industry.

His journey took him from military service and British Road Services to Lin-Can, long distance haulage, union representation, and eventually life as an independent owner-driver. Through harsh winters, failing engines, difficult employers, exhausting schedules, and constant financial pressure, John continued working to support his wife and four sons. His story is one of endurance, responsibility, and a lifelong connection to the road.
